Projects

Our club is involved in a variety of projects that involve fundraising, community service, and assisting children locally and worldwide.  Below are the projects in which we are currently involved:

Rockwell Elementary Reading Program:  Members read with 1st grade students in the second semester and 2nd grade students in the 2nd semester.

Rockwell Elementary "Good Citizens" Program:  We recognized the "Good Citizen" of the month from each class room.  The students are selected by their teachers and we recognize them with a pizza & soft drink lunch, then give them certificates and pencils; we also take their picture with their certificate, which is posted in the school entrance.

Rockwell Elementary Student Council Recognition:  We recognize the members of the Student Council with an end of year celebration.  We grill hot dogs for the students and we also have chips and cookies.

Rockwell Elementary K-Kids Club:  This is the elementary school level club in the Kiwanis Family of clubs sponsored by our club.  The club is made up of 3rd grade to 5th grade students.  This a student led organization with the objective of developing the members leadership skills and introducing them to service to their school and their community.

Andersen Middle School Builders Club:  This is the middle school level club in the Kiwanis Family of Clubs sponsored by our club.  The club is made up of 6th grade to 8th grade students.  This a student led organization with the objective of developing the members leadership skills and introducing them to service to their school and their community.

Millard West High School Key Club:  This is the high school level club in the Kiwanis Family of Clubs sponsored by our club.  The club is made up of 6th grade to 8th grade students.  This a student led organization with the objective of developing the members leadership skills and introducing them to service to their school and their community.

University of Nebraska Omaha Circle K Club:  This is the collegiate level club in the Kiwanis Family of Clubs sponsored by our club.  The club is made up of 6th grade to 8th grade students.  This a student led organization with the objective of developing the members leadership skills and introducing them to service to their school and their community.

Third Grade Student Dictionaries:  Provide dictionaries to all Third Grade Students in select Millard School District Elementary Schools.

Open Door Mission "Celebrate Education":  Our club partners with the Open Door Mission and the Omaha Public School District to recognize those students who reside at the Mission for their academic achievements while living under difficult circumstances. 

 Rainbow House:  Our club prepares and delivers an evening meal to those parents who reside at the Rainbow House while their child is a patient at the Children's Hospital.  We try to do this at least twice a year.

Nebraska Special Olympics:  Our club staffs the long jump competition during the Nebraska Special Olympics games.  We measure the jumps, rack the sand, and congratulate the participants.

All Play Miracle League Baseball League:  Our club, along with many other Kiwanis Clubs in the Omaha area, provide volunteer labor and assist with the All Play Miracle League Baseball League.  The field is located at 6802 Harrison Street in the Seymour Smith Park.  This field allows those children with handicaps to play the game of baseball.

Camp OK (Olympia Kiwanis):  Our club provides multiple scholarships to the NE-IA Kiwanis District Camp OK, which is a summer camp for underprivileged 5th grade students.  The camp is normally held the first week in June and the students are at the camp from Sunday afternoon to Friday.  

Thanksgiving Food Baskets:  Our club partners with three elementary schools in the Millard School District to provide boxes of food to underprivileged families in the Millard School District.  The elementary schools collect canned food and non-perishable food items and our club provides the turkey, potatoes, stuffing mix, and other items make up complete boxes of food for these families.  Our club sorts, packs, and delivers to approximately 55 families in the Millard School District.

Adopt-a-Family Christmas:  Our club adopts a family during the Christmas Holidays.  We shop for and provide Christmas gifts a family of 4 or more each Christmas. 

High School Scholarships:  Our club provides at least two scholarships to Millard High School Seniors each year.

Kiwanis Key Leader:  We provide scholarships and sponsor at least 2 High School Seniors to the Kiwanis Nebraska Key Leader seminar each year.  This is a leadership camp and is held normally the first weekend in November of each year.  The students attend various leadership seminars and team building seminars while at the camp.  They are also involved in a community service project during their stay.

Adopt a Refugee Family:  This year our club is adopting a refugee family.  We are collecting furniture, household items, and basic necessities to set up an apartment for a refugee family coming to Omaha.  Club members will also be able to visit the family and help them with getting adjusted to their new surroundings.
